Primary School Pupils Petition Authorities

DOWA: Unusual as it may sound but some primary school pupils in Dowa think enough is enough and have petitioned duty bearers to create conducive environment for them to attain quality education in the district.

The children, from Chibweza and Mdwala Primary schools, presented their concerns to the district’s Education Manager, Mr. Gabriel Chamdimba who confirmed receiving the concerns.

One of the concerned pupils Ester Ntaya, 13, from Chibweza primary told Zodiak online that learning is becoming difficult due to understaffing and inadequate learning materials.

“We share a book with teachers and we feel it’s very pathetic. We also don’t have water and toilets in some of the schools,” said the pupil

According to Mr. Chamdimba, the district assembly is taking care of the water and sanitation issues raised by the kids.

“The office has also immediately posted five teachers to the two schools to beef up staff” he said.

Project Officer for Every Child Mndolera project, Derek Luhanga expressed satisfaction that the children’s voice was heard from the horse’s mouth.

There are over 300 primary schools in Dowa.—Zodiak Online

So the authorities had to wait to the bravity of the pupils to reckon the need to beef up teaching staff. Incompetency at its best. Bravo to the pupils
