About 125 people have committed suicide between September 2018 to June 2019 in this country. Of these only four are women.

National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera, has attributed the rise in suicide cases to infidelity.

"We have recorded 125 suicide cases and out of these cases 121 are men and only 4 women.

"Infidelity is one of major reasons why most men are committing suicide," said Kadadzera.

Kadadzera said chronic illness, infidelity and protracted debts are major factors contributing to increased suicide cases in the country.

He also said Malawi Police Service has registered 8 attempted suicide cases, adding that northern and central regions are where most suicide cases are being committed.

He however asked Malawians to seek advice from community opinion leaders, like faith leaders, village heads and police when they have issues.

Psychologist, Dr. Chiwoza Bandawe, says hopelessness and relationship issues are major factors forcing men to commit suicide in Malawi.
