“Let the Budget Leave its Sense”

Human Resources for Health Coalition, a grouping of health service providers have pleaded with parliament to help in safeguarding the financial allocation towards the sector for effective service delivery.

HRH coalition president Mr. Shouts Simeza said this on Tuesday the evening when they had an audience with joint cluster Committee on Budget and Finance and Health Committee to lobby for improved working conditions for the health sector.

Members of the coalition took advantage of the cluster committee meeting where the parliamentarians are scrutinizing 2019 2020 National Budget to present some of the key issues affective quality health service delivery in the country on the Human resource perspective.

Simeza said Malawi continues to commit herself to different international declarations, with the recent one being Universal Health Coverage which can only be achieved with a vibrant Human Resource.

“Let the budget leave its sense to consider recruitment of additional health workers. The understanding is that the recruitment of additional HRH has been considered in the current proposed budget we fear that this may not be implemented as planned,” Simeza said.

On his part, co-chairperson of the cluster committee, Deus Gumba, assured the health professionals of total support and pledged to do all they can ensure their plea is met.

Gumba said Parliament is expected to finish cluster committee meetings this week and then enter plenary on Monday before passing the 2019 2020 National Budget.
