On Wednesday evening the law-enforcers in Mzuzu arrested the two; Chikumbutso Theu and Nicholas Sichula for being found in possession of the fake bank notes.

The two suspects, according to Mzuzu police spokesperson, Inspector Paul Tembo, were also found in possession of fake Tanzanian Motorcycle blue books.

"Chikumbutso Theu was found with 16,000 kwacha, and then follow up was made which led us to reveal where they were producing these fake currencies. This made us arrest Bicholasi Sichula who was found with gadgets which they were using to print. Additionally they were printing fake blue books."

Last week, Police in Mangochi district arrested a 21-year-old man for being found in possession of fake Malawian banknotes amounting to K300,000.

Reserve Bank of Malawi, Spokesperson, Ralph Tseka, says this shows that their campaigns are yielding results.

"It is really unfortunate that this trend is continuing, as Reserve Bank you will recall that we were on a. Campaign the whole of last year, and the campaign's are still continuing. Our campaigns are yielding results as you can see that in all the cases it is people who are actually distinguishing the fake currency," said Tseka

Mzuzu police publicist Inspector Tembo, believes the two who were arrested in Mzuzu are part of a syndicate which they continue to pursue.

These arrests follow another in Lilongwe where suspects were apprehended with fake local and United States Dollar Currencies.
