2012 MSCE Examination Results Out, Half Pass
The Malawi National Examination Board on Friday released the 2012 MSCE results where the number of students who have passed the examinations has declined from 2011 which recorded a 55 % pass rate.
This year out of the 111,781 candidates who sat for the exams 57,906 have passed representing a 51.80 pass rate.
The board also said out of 48,578 female candidates who sat for the exams 21,429 have passed representing a 44.11 % pass rate for girls. A total of 36,477 boys have made it representing a 57.71 pass rate.
The board also said it has disqualified 2,335 candidates for cheating and contravening its regulations.
Meanwhile all candidates are being informed that their results will be available at the centers where they registered.
Quality education activists have since bemoaned the declining pass rate, saying it is a sign that educations standards are dwindling.
The worst ever MSCE examination results to be recorded in Malawi was in 1999 with a pass rate of 13 %, a development that forced the then President Bakili Muluzi to call for a special iquiry.
