A syndicate has been uncovered in Maputo, Mozambique in which foreign nationals dubiously acquire Malawi visas to flock into the country.

Malawi immigration officials told Zodiak Online this month alone, 11 Pakistanis arrived in the country on three consecutive days using visa’s dubiously issued through the Malawian embassy in Mozambique.

Immigration public relations officer Martha Gonondo said in an interview five Pakistan nationals have since been arrested in connection with the syndicate.

“There are Pakistan nationals who are believed to be on a visa processing syndicate and they get letters from our offices in Maputo.

“Some Pakistan nationals applied for the visa letters through Malawi embassy in Mozambique but they were not residents of that country; neither were they touring the country. We have arrested five of them and we are to deport them as we are on the lookout for the others who are within the country,” she said.

Over the years the Malawi has been used as a transit route to other SADC countries by illegal immigrants.—Zodiak Online
