Man Gets 14 Years For Armed Robbery

Joseph Kainga will spend the next 14 years in jail for robbing two foreign priests at one of the lodges in Karonga.

Police Prosecutor Sub Inspector Alfred Chidzere told the court that on 1 April, the convict and three others entered the room where the priests were lodging and went away with cash and valuable items worth 5.6 million kwacha.

Sub Inspector Chidzere added that the convict and his fellow accomplices threatened to kill them if they resisted giving them money.

In his submission, the Police Prosecutor pleaded with the court to hand down a custodial sentence to deter other would-be offenders.

Delivering his verdict, First Grade Magistrate Julius Kalambo concurred with the state and slapped Kainga with a 14-year jail term.

Joseph Kainga hails from Masyesye village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambya in Chitipa district.
