Pastoral Letter a Wake-up Call to Chakwera-CDW

Pastoral Letter a Wake-up Call to Chakwera-CDW

A civil society group Center for Democracy Watch-CDW says it is hopeful that government will begin to wake up and seriously consider the voices of reason that different sections of the society in the country have been offering.

The CDW said this in a statement released Monday, 7th March and signed by its national coordinator Levy Luwemba and publicity secretary Hebrews Misomali, in reaction to the 2022 Catholic Church bishops' pastoral letter that was released last Sunday.

The statement says the issues that were raised in the pastoral letter agree with the views of most Malawians, thus trusting that the government will have a deeper reflection on the critical matters.

Reads the statement in part; "Malawi is fast losing its warm-heartedness in Africa. Corruption, nepotism, unemployment, political bias, executive arrogance, indecisiveness and general lack of direction remain prevalent even with the current regime."

The grouping further states, "Contrary to Malawi without religious, regional and political biases that were promised, the country is characterized by many challenges, including laughable cabinet compositions".

The CDW has meanwhile appealed to President Lazarus Chakwera to clear the growing public perception that among his cabinet ministers, are some untouchables that are suspected to indulge in corrupt practices.

The grouping has mentioned as examples job creation, AIP management, dwindling education standards, and nepotism as some of the things that need the president's attention.

The statement ends by an appeal to all Malawians to vigilantly continue holding public officers to account, for they run on taxpayers' resources, and govern on sustained public trust.
