DPP to File Appeal Against Dzimadzi Ruling

DPP Kayuni DPP Kayuni

The Office of Director of Public Prosecutions-DPP says will this week file the appeal against the lower court’s ruling in Ntcheu which acquitted Vincent Dzimadzi on charges of an act intended to cause grievous harm last week.

In a written response to Zodiak, DPP Steve Kayuni says the state will be appealing on the point of law as required by the court process.

Meanwhile, Gender Minister, Patricia Kaliati observed with the recent lower court’s verdict, women and children will continue experiencing human rights violations.

“It is sad that while we have legislations to protect our women and children from human rights violations, some are interpreting the laws to the contrary,” she said.

However, Kaliati says the decision by the DPP to appeal against the ruling is commendable arguing laws must be applied to everyone regardless of status.

Dzimadzi was arrested last year following a video clip that went viral allegedly showing him torturing a minor in Ntcheu.
