Man Jailed For Stealing 2 Bags of Maize

The Second Grade Magistrate Court in Ntchisi has convicted and sentenced Hopeson Ndundu, 24, to 30 months in jail for breaking into the building, and stealing 2 bags of maize weighing 70 kilograms each, valued at sixteen thousand kwacha from a warehouse belonging to one of the residents in the district.

The court through the state prosecutor, Sergeant Virginia Kasiya, heard that on October 21, 2021, Ndudu broke and entered a warehouse of Aubrey Saka where he store two bags of maize

After the matter was reported to police, an investigation was instituted which led to the recovery of the two bags of maize, and the arrest of Hopeson Ndundu.

Appearing before the court for the plea, Ndundu was found guilty of burglary and theft contrary to section 301(2)

Kasiya pleaded with the court to give Ndundu a stiffer punishment to deter other would-be offenders

In passing his judgment, Second Grade Magistrate Fredrick Malovu agreed with the state saying cases of crime of this nature are rising in the district.

Malovu slapped Ndundu with 30 months imprisonment with hard labour for both burglary and theft.

Hopeson Ndundu comes from Kamsonga Village, Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi District.
