Lack of evidence based data has been singled out as one key indicator that is derailing humanitarian response and community resilience in the country.

Commissioner for the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) Charles Kalemba, made the sentiments on Thursday during the official opening of the 2022 Malawi Data Summit in Lilongwe.

"Reliable data is so crucial in determining the right decisions in Humanitarian and community response, for this reason we have to make proper interventions in Data management," Kalemba said.

But UNFPA Country Representative Young Hong has asked Malawi government to introduce holistic approach in Data management system to address the existing gaps.

"We are currently engaging the Malawi government on how to come up with effective measures that can be used to preserve data in humanitarian response," Young said.

The two day Malawi Data Summit which has attracted different stakeholders in Data management is under the theme "Harnessing Data and Technology to Improve Humanitarian Response and Community Response."
