Centre for Disability and Elderly Affairs (CDEA) has eased mobility challenges to about 20 people with disabilities from Traditional Authority (T/A) Jalasi in Mangochi by giving them tricycles.

The organization’s board chairperson, King Norman Rudi, who presented the donation to the beneficiaries at Majuni on Sunday, said the gesture is part of their mission which is promoting the rights of persons with disability and older persons and improving their quality life.

“The genesis of this donation is that as CDEA, we entered into partnership with Sumaili Youth Organization here in Mangochi as our main objective is to assist the elderly and those with disabilities enjoy their rights, and we thought we share much in common with this organization,” said Rudi.

He added: “So, this organization approached us that there were some elderly people with disabilities around this area with mobility problems. We sourced these tricycles from Action for Progress who gave us 20 that we have distributed to persons with disabilities from this area.”

Gift Kasele, one of the beneficiaries from Kabuthu Village, expressed her gratitude to the organization, saying she will from now be able to do a number of things she failed to do due to mobility challenges.

“With this tricycle, now I will be participating in community activities, like celebrations, funerals, even doing my own business as this was not possible without this as to do so, could have required someone to carry me,” said the 31-year-old woman.

Speaking through a representative, T/A Jalasi also commended the organization, saying life will not be the same for the beneficiaries who were both young and old.
