The newly elected UTM District Governor for Thyolo Urban District Charles George has vowed to speak the truth about the situation on the ground about both the party and Tonse Alliance government.

George told Zodiak on Thursday after his election that he is not among grassroot leaders who deceive parties’ secretariats and government as if things are good on the ground when it is the opposite.

“It is true that things are not as good as people expected and I as grassroot leader I will ensure that I continue reminding the party and the Tonse Alliance government where we belong the sufferings ordinary citizens are facing,” said George.

Meanwhile, UTM Regional Governor for the South Steven Mikaya says the regional team with support from the secretariat is on the ground facilitating fresh elections for district committees that were dormant.

“We want all our grassroot structures to be vibrant because they form the heart of the party,” said Mikaya.

The UTM Thyolo Urban District Committee had been dormant following the death of the committee’s former governor Samson Magwaya in a road accident in December, 2019.

Malita Yasin has been elected as district governess and Wilson Nsikita is governor responsible for youths.

Mikaya was accompanied by UTM National Executive Committee member Allan Ngumuya.
