CCARDESA Programme Officer, Bartholomew Chataika has confirmed to told Zodiak Online Tuesday.

The project will provide water for home use and irrigation, energy to people, and food security by harnessing climate-smart agriculture practices to reduce the impact of climate change.

"Through this global climate change adaptation plus project, we will set two demonstration sites, one in Dedza, Malawi and the other in Zambia," said Chataika.

According to Chataika, the 2-year project will provide water, energy and address the problem of food shortage.

"Global climate change adaptation plus project will increase the capabilities of SADC member states to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.

"We want to strengthen the capacity of SADC member states to undertake regional and national adaptation and mitigation actions in response to the challenges caused by the effects of global, climate change and climate variability," said Chataika.

He also said the project will help smallholder farmers to apply climate-smart agriculture and other conservation agriculture practices.

District irrigation officer for Dedza Mr Dumi Banda commended SADC for the project saying it will improve the economic status of the people of Dedza.
