Managing Director of the Centre, Patricia Singini says, for instance, they have provided psycho-social support to close to 2,000 victims in Chikwawa and plans are underway to render similar services to affected people in Mangochi and Salima.
“We managed to talk to people from Namalindi, Bereu, Sekeni and Jumbo camp. People have shown willingness to move upland but for this to happen needs more departments to take action,” said Singini.
She has since asked for financial support from development partners and companies in order to target more citizens.
“We do not have funding to carry out such activities, we therefore ask development partners and well-wishers to support us. We specifically want to reach out to a girl child in Mangochi,” explained the Managing Director.
This comes when several hundreds of people are living in camps after being severely hit hard by the tropical storm Ana and Dumako where most of them are living a miserable life, lacking some basic needs, mainly food.
Recently, Disaster Management Affairs Commissioner Charles Kalemba warned district councils against keeping food and non-food reliefs items in warehouses but rather send such support to affected people.
“We have received support from different partners, so what we expect is for this assistance to go to the people urgently,” said Kalemba.
