The community of Sant'Egidio through its health organisation DREAM Program has embarked on a K350 million plus HIV/AIDS and TB project called Bridge the Gap in districts of Balaka, Machinga and Mangochi.

DREAM, together with the Ministry of health - Balaka DHO is implementing this project with support from the Italian Cooperation Agency (AICS) from Italy.

Project Manager Bruce Tambwali says 'DREAM' wants to improve quality services in 19 health facilities and also strengthen laboratory services in the districts.

Tambwali added that people will benefit from this program as they will have easy access to health centers, reduction of mother to child HIV transmission and also reduction of retention rates.

District Health and Social Services officer Dr Eugene Katenga Kaunda, said this will go a long way to improve livelihoods in the district.

"Yes that's the new project which aims at reducing the HIV Aids pandemic with support from saint Egidio through DREAM. It is going to support the district with Covid PPEs and HIV capacity building to our health workers in terms of case management and prevention and also IT equipment to all our ART clinic sites and that's in 15 health centres where we offer ART in the Districts with support from DREAM," said Kaunda.
