Man Jailed 3 Yrs for Theft by Servant

A 33-year-old man, Frank Kapesi who was working as a loan officer for an organization known as Concern Universal Micro Finance Organization (Cumo) in Ntchisi, will spend the next 3 years in jail for stealing money amounting to five million three hundred kwacha for the organization.

Kapesi was arrested on October 20, 2021, by Mwasambo Police Officers in Nkhotakota after officials from the organization reported that he stole the cash between the month of September and October in the area of senior chief Kasakula where he was controlling eight groups of debt collectors.

Appearing before the court for plea on Friday, Kapesi was found guilty of theft by servant contravening section 286 of the penal code.

In passing his judgment, Second Grade Magistrate Fredrick Malovu said despite Kapesi failing to account for the money and that his relatives failed to refund the money, he has lost the job and slapped Kapesi with 3 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Frank Kapesi hails from Kapesi village, traditional authority Kapesi in Dedza district.
