A 22-year old man Madalitso Wyson has been sentenced to nine years imprisonment in Thyolo for trafficking an 11-year old boy.

The court heard through State prosecutor Ishmael Abubast, that on February 18, 2022, Wyson of Chaoneka village, Traditional Authority Khwethemule in the district offered for sale the boy who is a cousin, to one of the traditional doctors at Ntambanyama Trading Centre.

"On February 18, 2022, Madalitso Wyson went to Chingadzi Primary School where he took the victim out. He then took the boy to his girlfriend's place where they spent a night without the knowledge of the victim's parents," he said.

He added that the following day, Wyson took the boy who is a cousin and a Standard 2 learner, to one of the traditional doctors within Ntambanyama Trading Centre where he offered him for sale.

The state prosecutor, while praying for a stiffer sentence, said the traditional doctor informed the community who reported the matter to police and he was arrested for a child trafficking offense.

In his ruling on Tuesday, First Grade Magistrate Kondanani Chinangwa has sentenced Madalitso Wyson to 108 months imprisonment contrary to section 79 of Child Care, Protection and Justice Act to serve as a deterrent to other like-minded people.
