IBAM Commends Govt on Police Uniform Procurement

Indigenous Business Association of Malawi (IBAM) President Mike Mlombwa has hailed government for the plan to be procuring Police uniform locally, describing it as a positive step in promoting indigenous businesses.

Mlombwa told Zodiak on Wednesday that the country has suffered and lost a lot of taxpayer's money through dubious pricing of goods and services supplied by foreign companies.

"I think that is very good development. With time, we are going to get used. It has been long time that a lot of companies especially owned by foreigners have cheated us in terms of pricing.

"So, this time around, when the government has decided to give business to locals, in terms of black indigenous Malawians, this is a very good development.

"This government should not get tired it needs to explore a lot of ways on how to assist indigenous businesses. So even in future, let's share the cake, if it continues, that means we are home and dry...we will the booming of our economy in two years’ time," Mlombwa said.

Mlombwa has however, advised indigenous entities to be honest and trustworthy in supplying quality products to sustain the opportunity.

"I always encourage people that they should not think of becoming millionaires overnight. But with the volume, we will be getting something to survive," he added.

On Tuesday, Minister of finance Sosten Gwengwe announced in Parliament that Malawi will no longer import Police uniforms instead they will be made locally.

Gwengwe said going forward no food rations will be imported instead Police officers will be given allowances to buy their food locally.
