Malawi Youths Set Up Internship Program
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Youth Development and Welfare, Mr. Alexander Mseka, said this on Wednesday in Lilongwe during a meeting to endorse members of the National Internship Advisory Board
So far more than ninety young people have been trained through the National Youth Council of Malawi internship program since its commencement this year.
Seventy three percent of the country’s population is comprised of young people below the age of thirty.
And according to the Malawi Growth Development Strategy 2010 Report the youth have the highest rate of unemployment.
But the biggest challenge that the young people face is lack of job entry skills.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Youth Development and Welfare, Mr. Alexander Mseka, says, it is for this reason that, the National Youth Council of Malawi internship program will inevitably increase chances of the young people to get employment.
He says often times prospective employers always ask young people are quizzed
Mr. Mseka further says the internship program compliments the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy which lists youth development as one of the nine priorities.
So far more than ninety young people have trained through the internship program and are waiting for placement.
On his part, Chairperson of the National Advisory Board of the National Youth Council of Malawi, Mr. Pat Mhone, said his thirteen-member board will work tirelessly to ensure that the internship program succeeds. - Zodiak Online
