Chimunthu Hails Prof. Mkandawire

MZIMBA: Speaker of the National Assembly Henry Chimunthu Banda on Wednesday hailed departed MP for Mzimba Central Professor Donton Mkandawire as an accomplished educationalist who enormously contributed his experience to parliament.

Mr. Chimunthu Banda said this in Lilongwe December 28 at the funeral service for the late professor.

President Bingu wa Mutharika, Leader of Opposition John Tembo, former vice president Justin Malewezi, former official government hostess Mama Cecilia Kadzamira were also present.

Professor Mkandawire died of cancer at Mwaiwathu Clinic in Blantyre. He is left a wife, three daughters and three grand children.

Speaking for the ruling DPP, First Vice President Goodall Gondwe said the late Mkandawire would be missed a lot.

Donton Mkandawire was born on January 1, 1941. He went through secondary education at Zomba Secondary School, a teacher’s course at Domasi Teachers’ College, Claremont Teachers’ College in Western Australia and later University of Western Australia where he got a diploma in education.

In 1966, Mkandawire obtained a Bachelor degree in Education. Later in 1971 he pursued a  Master of Education at University of Pittsburgh before getting a PhD in 1975.  - Zodiak Online
