MPs Chased from Callista Function

Overzealous DPP roughnecks on Saturday sent away two members of parliament from the venue of a function attended by first lady Callista Mutharika only for the police security to go fetch them back with all security provided.

Madame Callista Mutharika was visiting Blantyre City South constituency whose MP is Mr. Moses Kunkuyu. The other MP sent away was Mr. Peter Nowa legislator for Mulanje Pasani constituency. They are in bad books in DPP.

The first lady was at Zingwangwa Secondary School to give a public inspirational talk just hours after newspapers reported that the two MPs are leading fellow DPP MPs in a pressure group defending good governance in the DPP.

Mr. Kunkuyu in his role as MP for the area was later called back to the function after police assured him of security.

DPP spokesperson Dr. Hetherwick Ntaba has expressed ignorance on the matter asking for more time to investigate.

Last week Chief Executive Officer of Lilongwe City Council Mr. Kelvin M’mangisa was manhandled at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) when president Mutharika returned from attending the 100th anniversary of the ANC.

A group of young men in black suits roughly ordered the city chief back into his official limousine and back to his office for his alleged lack of demonstration of party loyalty.

There is already speculation that the incident could be linked to riots that erupted in Lilongwe City on January 5th after the city assembly sought to remove vendors from the streets.

A day before the July 20 demonstrations last year, a group of machete welding young men and women used DPP vehicles in the streets of Blantyre to scare away demonstrators.—Zodiak Online
