State Lawyers Refuse to Prosecute Kasambara

The Malawi government has been hit with an egg on the face following revelations that some of its lawyers are refusing to take up a case in which prominent lawyer Ralph Kasambara is being charged with kidnapping and assault.

A zodiak online source at the ministry of justice exclusively revealed that all lawyers at the ministry are refusing to take up the case because they think it is politically motivated.

“It seems the lawyers are frustrated with arrest and detention Mr. Kasambara. Everyone is refusing to take up the case,” said the source.

Ministry of Justice spokesperson Miss Apoche Itimu confirmed that state lawyers are refusing to take up the case but said they are giving out different reasons.

“They are giving out various reasons for the refusal, some say they know Mr. Kasambara personally while others say they were his students so they can’t take up the case,” Miss Itimu told zodiak online.

She said following the development government is yet to identify a lawyer to take up the case against the Kasambara, charged with kidnapping and assault.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kasambara has been freed on police bail after spending four days in prison and later hospitalized for heart problems.

Mr. Kasambara has since sued ten police and prison officials for contempt court after they disregarded two court orders to have the former Attorney General freed on bail.—Zodiak Online
