A gospel reggae musician has asked government and development partners to cushion musicians amid a difficult economic environment due to Covid 19.

Jackie Ndenje Somba told Zodiak Online on Saturday that musicians play a critical role in this country; hence, the need to extend a helping hand to them to improve their living standards.

Somba then called on musicians to continue sensitizing communities to adhere to all Covid 19 preventive measures.

“I urge my fellow musicians to continue composing songs that will uplift lives of people in the country,” said Somba, adding that there is need to collaborate in fighting challenges that are rocking the country.

The musician’s sentiments come when the country has been experiencing increasing cases of unplanned pregnancies, forced marriages, rape, defilement among others.

Meanwhile, an organization, Primic Inc, led by Prince Chokhotho, says is intending to use ambassadors of Junior plus size, senior plus size and extra plus size beauty pageant to fight rampant incidents of rape, defilement and early marriages.

“We always hear of nasty incidents taking place in the country, largely affecting children and women. We cannot allow such things like rape and defilement to continue in our society,” explained Chokhotho.

Apart from Blantyre, the beauty pageant which took place at Wine House in Blantyre on Saturday is also expected to take place in Mzuzu soon after having the first event in Lilongwe.
