For a long time, book writing in the country has been dominated by senior people, men to be specific.

The story however seems to be gradually changing in Malawi.

Women have risen to the occasion and published books that are telling local stories.

Among them are the two children, Tamanda and Talandira Kamtukule .

They have joined the list of few females that have shown courage and resilience to tell their stories through writing.

The duo has written The Helpful Kalulu, in which they are telling a story on the need for children to be generous and help others.

“We want to inspire many children out there that have ambitions and of course ability to write books. They should not look down on themselves. They should live and fulfill their dreams by putting their thoughts to paper as we have done.

We are working on another book right now” said Tamanda and Talandira

Writing seems to be in the blood for the mother of the two who is also Minister of Labour, Vera Kamtukule has also authored several books.

Edison Kamtukule, father of the two told Zodiak Online that he is a proud father.

“These kids have made us proud. They have shown the courage to author this book. This is an exceptional gesture from our kids,” said Kamtukule.

Meanwhile, Christian Heritage Academy, Vice Principal John Maxison says he was proud that the school for the first time has produced authors in the name of Tamanda and Talandira.

The duo has since announced that 20 percent of proceeds from the sales of the book will go towards assisting the needy at Christian Heritage Academy.

Talandira, 9, and Tamanda 11 are the youngest publishers in the country.
