Armed Thugs Terrorize Lower-Shire

There are growing fears in Chikwawa and Nsanje where armed thugs have been terrorizing some parts of the districts.

The gang is reported to have been terrorizing areas of Dyeratu, Nchalo and Ngabu in Chikwawa and Sorgin, breaking shops and houses of business people, hacking and stealing money in the process.

A few days ago, the owner of Yamikani Investments at Dyeratu was severely hacked by thugs where they robbed him over K1 million.

Police have not made any arrests and businessmen there seem to now lose hope.

Police spokesperson in Chikwawa, Sgt. Foster Benjamin told Zodiak that the law enforcers are working to apprehend the thugs.

"We have intensified patrols and we hope anytime soon, we will catch the robbers," said Benjamin.

A few months ago, businessmen at Nchalo led by Mr Osman at one of the meetings accused police of failing to arrest the criminals that have been causing havoc and sexually abusing women and girls there.

At that meeting, police alleged that the guns the thieves are using are coming from the neighboring Mozambique.

Minister of trade, Mr Salim Bagus who is a member of parliament for Chikwawa Central says he will engage Minister of Homeland Security to help them enhance patrols in order to protect business people.
