Karonga Business Tycoons Proposes Public Places Disinfection to Contain Further Spread of COVID-19.

As the country continues to grapple with rising cases of COVID-19, business tycoons have tipped government to consider disinfecting public places in order to tame further spread of the deadly virus.
Karonga based business magnet Leonard Kiyombo who runs Karonga Inn and other Investments said Wednesday that it is high time that government borrowed from the Peoples Republic of China who managed to contain the disease by disinfecting all public places.

Kiyombo also explained that beside this council authorities should make sure that all business operators have hand washing buckets with soap and sanitizers.

"We are planning to meet at least five stakeholders to brainstorm on ways of arresting the spread of the deadly disease," said Kiyombo.

In a related development, National Smallholder Farmers Association has donated personal protective equipment to Kasoba and Mpata health centres in Karonga with financial support from the United States Government through United States Africa Development Foundation.

Ntchowo Association Vice Chairperson Kenneth Mwakasungula said the provision of personal protective equipment is aimed at protecting front line staff from the health sector who are at high risk contracting the virus.

"As an Association we are worried that most people in the district are not complying with COVID-19 preventive measures such as frequent hand washing with soap, public gatherings and handshakes," lamented Mwakasungula.

Kasoba Health Centre In- charge Hendy Musowa hailed the organization for providing personal protective gear to the facility which faces an acute shortage of health workers.

Karonga district has so far registered 28 confirmed COVID-19 cases with one death and ten recoveries.
