President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera was on Tuesday morning in Zambia meeting his counterpart, the Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu at his state residence in Lusaka.

President Chakwera commended the countries bilateral relationship asking his partner for a continued peaceful coexistence for the benefit and prosperity of their people.

Chakwera stressed the similarities the two countries share such as language, culture and tribes stating that these should help in bringing the two nations together as well as strengthen ties.

President Chakwera also spoke on the need for exponential economic growth between the two countries as the key to improved livelihoods of its citizens.

Summing it all up, Dr. Chakwera told the Zambian president that he hopes the boundaries that the two nations share will help in unifying them than cause conflict as has been in the past.

Prior to the visit, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu wrote on his Facebook page that "our two countries continue to actively cooperate in social, political, and economic areas, within the framework of the Zambia/Malawi Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security and the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation, for the betterment of our peoples."

This was his first foreign trip since being elected into office as President during the June 23 Fresh presidential Election.

During the state visit to neighboring Zambia, President Lazarus Chakwera visited the burial site where the country’s fallen leaders were laid to rest.

President Chakwera laid wreaths to the graves of Levy Mwanawasa, Fredrick Chiluba and Michael Sata.
