Ministry of Health Spokesperson, Joshua Malango, says the 1 million doses are meant for those that received their first jab, and also those that are yet to be vaccinated.

“We are expecting to receive a second batch under COVAX in May, and we are expecting to receive a million doses for us to continue with the vaccinating to 20% of the population”, disclosed Malango.

Malango added that people are now aware of the importance of getting the vaccine at a time misinformation played a huge role.

Malawi Health Equity Network Executive Director, George Jobe, said there is need to intensify awareness on the vaccine so that the 1 million doses the country is expecting to receive should be fully utilized.

‘With massive awareness and involvement of various stakeholders, on the vaccine, it is possible that more people will be vaccinated,” said Jobe

As of 25 April, 2021, 276,657 people have been vaccinated from the 360 thousand doses of the vaccine the country got in the first batch.
