A grouping under the banner Malawi Union for Informal Sector has expressed disappointment over failure by local councils to accommodate vendors' concerns.

President of the Union, Ken William Mhango said these concerns fuel endless misunderstandings between vendors and council officials.

``Failure to address challenges that vendors are facing has seen unending battles between vendors especially in cities and towns", says Mhango.

On Tuesday, the Union and Mzuzu City Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Market management that is aimed at promoting revenue collection, vendor’s welfare, and infrastructure development of markets.

Vice Mayor for Mzuzu City Council, Councilor Desire Nyirenda has applauded the signing of the MOU saying it will help the council understand vendors more, hence be able to address their concerns amicably.

`` We have liked this approach. It will help us to understand vendors better and address their concerns effectively.

Vice Chairperson for Mzuzu vendors Association Gerald Maulana says they are optimistic that they will see a change following the MoU agreement, as currently, the markets are congested and unsanitary.
