As Malawi continues to battle a prolonged Cholera outbreak since January this year, Mzimba south is now the latest district to register the disease with four confirmed cases.

The four cases have been registered around Khonsolo an area under the catchment of Khonsolo health center.

Its suspected that the four people might have contracted the disease while in the neighboring districts of Nkhata bay or Nkhotakota where the outbreak has been causing problems in recently.

Mzimba south district health promotion officer Ellings Nyirenda said; "Through our surveillance assistants it was reported that some people have presented themselves with cholera symptoms at Khonsolo health center, and we have established that four of the people have cholera."

"We suspect that the four may have travelled to either Nkhatabay or Nkhotakota where they might have contracted the disease."

Nyirenda further said that they have intensified awareness messages to prevent further spread.

Over 2000 people have contracted cholera in 18 districts in the country, and over 70 have died.
