St. John of God Hospitaller Services Rated as a 3-Star Hospital in Malawi
The St. John of God Hospital Services in Mzuzu has become the first hospital in the country to be rated as a 3-star medical facility in the provision of quality health services to its clients.
The Executive Director of the mental hospital, Dr. Charles Masulani, described this as an early Christmas gift that will motivate them more and reduce rising cases of mental disorders in the country.
“Apart from motivating our members of staff, our clients and their guardians will have confidence in the service we provide at our facility,” said Dr. Masulani.
This initiative is aimed at ensuring that hospitals in the country provide quality healthcare services, and all hospitals will be assessed.
This is a national rating program that the Norms and Standard Quality Management Directorate in the Ministry of Health is implementing, where hospitals are being rated from 1 to 5 stars.
Head of the Norms and Standard Quality Management Directorate in the ministry, Dr. Bongani Chikwapulo, says the rating is aimed at reducing preventable deaths in both public and private hospitals in the country.
Explained Dr. Chikwapulo: “Our assessment is robust because we will look into several issues, like how medical services are being provided to patients.”
So far, 100 health facilities have been assessed, and most of them have managed to get one, while others have two stars according to their efforts in the provision of quality health care services to their clients.
