Tonse Alliance Followers Injured In Separate Road Accidents

Four followers of the Tonse Alliance were yesterday injured in two separate road accidents in Mchinji district.

The two accidents occurred on the campaign trail when the Speaker of the Malawi National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara held whistle stop rallies in the district.

The first accident occurred along Kapiri-Kamwendo road when a vehicle on the campaign convoy rammed into Khumbize Banda aged 40, a party follower.

She sustained fractured left leg.

In the second road accident on the Kawere-Mkanda road a lorry with 39 Tonse Alliance followers heading towards Mkanda Trade Centre plunged into a ditch after swerving on the sides after the driver failured to negotiate a corner.

Mchinji police spokesperson, Kondwani Kandiado, says three people, all from Lilongwe district sustained serious injuries.

“All the four have been admitted to Mchinji District Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries,” said Kandiado.

Gotanni-Hara held whistle-stop campaign rallies at Nkhwazi, Misale, Tembwe, Matutu, Kamwendo, Mchinji Boma, and the main rally at Mkanda primary school.

The campaign on this route was initially expected to be led by MCP-UTM Alliance presidential candidate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera but he was suddenly no on the trail.
