The budget which has largely fulfilled a number of campaign promises made prior to June 23 fresh presidential elections has however received mixed reactions from stakeholders.

The opposition, Democratic Progressive Party DPP is blunt, the Tonse Alliance blueprint has failed Malawians.

DPP Spokesperson on Finance, Joseph Mwanamvekha says, for example, the Chakwera led administration has failed to Tonse Alliance promises

The former finance minister says the Tonse Alliance has set target too high on revenue collection estimates.

“Malawians have been cheated because several promises that the Tonse Alliance made prior to elections have not been fulfilled through the budget. On top that, most of the things the budget are what we the DPP has been doing” said Mwanamvekha

Speaking at a media briefing soon after presenting the budget, Finance Minister admitted that not all promises made prior to June 23 have been fulfilled

Mlusu was quick to mention that those promises will be fulfilled in the next financial plans.

Members of parliament have since retreated to various clusters for thorough scrutiny of the 2020/2021 budget before passing it.
