Anti-Abortion Proponents Parade Abortion Survivors

Anti-abortion proponents in the country today Wednesday took to the podium to openly criticize the proponents of the Termination of Pregnancy Bill which is yet to be tabled in parliament.

The grouping which paraded about seven survivors of abortion unanimously denounced the proposition to have the bill passed into law.

One of the leaders for the grouping which is calling itself Concerned Citizens Against Abortion James Kaunjika said the grouping will not bow down to pressure

“The tabling of the bill is just a copycat of what other countries have done. We appeal to the members of parliament not to table this,” said Kaunjika

One of the survivors Reverend Alex Chirwa said abortion is evil and should not be advocated for in Malawi.

“I am one of the survivors of abortion and my direct appeal to the lawmakers is that they should not pass this bill. Many children will die if termination of pregnancy is effected into law."

Statistics from Ministry of Health indicate that 70,000 women in the country have illegal abortions each year and 17 percent of them die from the procedure.
