Donor Impressed With Progress Of Teen Mother's & Adolescent Girls’ Program

UNFPA Deputy Representative Mr. Masaki Matabe and Koica Tanzania Country Director Mr. Kyucheol Eo were in Dedza on Wednesday to appreciate the progress of the Action for Teen Mother's and Adolescent girls program they are funding.

The two have expressed satisfaction with the way the project is being implemented as girls and teen mothers are accessing sexual and reproductive health services to make informed decisions about their lives.

"We are impressed with the progress, girls and teen mothers are being supported to go back to school even after experiencing pregnancy or child marriage, it is also empowering them to get educated."

National Coordinator of Malawi Girl Guides Association Mphatso Balua Jim said the project is encouraging girls to remain in school and also providing services to teen mothers to avoid another pregnancy.

"We are motivated by the donor's visit, it is only a few months since the project was launched but the girls are benefiting already, some are being provided with school fees and most of them are accessing sexual reproductive health services," said Jim.

The 6 million US dollar project is being implemented by MAGGA, FPAM, and YONECO in 2 districts of Dedza and Mchinji.

Over 200 thousand girls in the two districts are expected to benefit.
