Water Woes Affect School Learners in Ntchisi

Some primary schools in the area of traditional authority Kalumo in Ntchisi are facing serious water problems, which have affected hygiene and other operations.

For instance, Kawaza primary school which is in the area does not have a borehole or any other water source which is forcing learners to fetch water from other unprotected sources.

According to the school authorities, this is affecting hygiene at the school.

One of the parents for learners at the school, Elena Gideon believes the problem is affecting the performance of learners as well.

Said Gideon:" Our children are being affected. We have been pleading with authorities to fix the problem."

According to water development experts in the district, the school and surrounding communities are being affected because the area is dry."

The school, as well as community members, are forced to walk long distances every day just to fetch water from unprotected sources.

Ward councilor for the area, Frackson Sefasi says there are plans to find other means to fix the problem.
