This comes as the Catholic Commission for Peace and Justice-CCJP of Dedza Diocese supported the survivors with relief items worth MK12 Million with financial assistance from MISERIOR, the German Catholic Bishops Organization for Development Cooperation.

Director for Social Development for the diocese, Father Paul Kunkumbira told Zodiak Online that with the Catholic Church believing in rendering a hand to vulnerable communities, serving such people while psychologically affected owing to disasters beside other social challenges is difficult.

“The church believes that a human person is both soul and body. However, it is difficult to preach to somebody who is physically affected hence supporting the communities to build their resilience,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Bertha Chiwaya of Nsamanyada Village, Traditional Authority-T/A Champiti claims that following the disaster, together with her four children are living a miserable life reaching this far.

“The aftermath of the disaster left many of us with nothing to rely upon. We lost our homes and even food,” she said, adding that the support was timely.

Among the relief items include; bags of maize, sweet potatoes vine, cassava tubers, and cooking oil.

In Ntcheu, at least 7 thousand households were affected by the tropical storm Ana which killed two people and left 28 others with injuries.
