Utility Bodies Blamed For Stalling Projects

An Audit by the ministry of local government on outstanding projects has revealed that a majority of projects have stalled as a result of failure by utility bodies to provide their service.

Disclosing this in parliament on Tuesday, responsible Minister Blessings Chinsinga said the ministry is engaging the utility bodies to either connect electricity or water in order to complete the construction works.
Chinsinga was responding to questions from parliamentarians on Government’s plans on projects that have passed their lifespan.

“Most of the projects have reached completion stage but they are lacking connection to basic utilities such as water and electricity and what we are doing is to engage institutions to ensure that that these amenities are provided” Chinsinga said.

Minister Chinsinga made the disclosure in parliament as he responded to questions from parliamentarians on increased incidents of non-completion of construction projects in various constituencies.
