Ntcheu Traditional Leader Calls for Awareness On Covid-19 Vaccine

Group village headman Doviko of Traditional Authority-TA Mpando in Ntcheu has called for the creation of more demand for COVID-19 vaccine among rural communities where myths and misconception is halting vaccine uptake in the district.

The traditional leader has told Zodiak Online that with more awareness to dispel the myths, many people in hard to reach areas will easily understand the importance of receiving the jab.

“Cultural believes are frustrating Covid-19 vaccine uptake among local communities. What is key now is for more awareness to dispelling the myths surrounding the vaccine,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Parent and Child Health Initiative-PACHI with support from UNICEF has stepped up efforts that seeks to increase COVID-19 vaccine numbers in Ntcheu which is among the country's least vaccinated district.

The organization's Project Officer for Ntcheu, Chisomo Mkandawire says they are using opinion leaders to influence behavior change about the vaccine.

“Opinion leaders such as Chief and traditional leaders play a pivotal role in influencing change among there subjects hence the involvement,” she said.
