Lawyers Mourn Nampota

The country’s legal fraternity is mourning the death of renowned lawyer and former Director General for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Alexious Nampota who died at Blantyre Adventist Hospital on the Chrisman eve after a short illness.

Tributes are flowing from different lawyers, who have described Nampota as a humble person with high integrity.

His longtime patterner in the field Gustav Kaliwo told Zodiak Online that Nampota was a dedicated, humble legal professional and family man.

“He was a man of standards by his death, the nation has lost, the legal profession has lost and for some of us who were his friends have lost.

I never knew of Alex being ill and I am yet to recover and accept this,” said Kaliwo.

Jai Banda once defended a case which Nampota prosecuted while at ACB. He described him as a clean man.

“He was a man of integrity and really loved his profession, a senior member of the bar who really deserved to be appointed a senior counsel.”

Another lawyer who worked closely with Nampota Burton Mhango said Nampota was an open man and always willing to help new lawyers in the field.

Said Mhango, “Mr. Nampota was a person who was very calm and he has taught a lot of us the junior ones on how to conduct ourselves as lawyers.”

Nampota started his legal practice in 1987. He is survived by a wife and three children. The body of the late Nampota will be buried on Tuesday at Luchenza in Thyolo.
