Chakwera Elects New Cabinet

Mid-night last night as the nation slipped into February, President Lazarus Chakwera released a 27-member new cabinet in an apparent wish to meet his pledge for a new team in January.

Secretary to the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) Colleen Zamba says the appointments are with effect from January 31.

In the new cabinet, the president has fired seven ministers and three deputies.

Those fired include information minister Gospel Kazako, trade minister Mark Katsonga, natural resources minister Eisenhower Mkaka, gender minister Patricia Kaliati and national unity minister Timothy Mtambo.

Some of the new faces are Ken Zikhale Ng'oma, Moses Kunkuyu, Simplex Chithyola Banda, Uchizi Mkandawire and DPP legislator Owen Chomanika.
