Oxfam Malawi has challenged government to invest more resources in the nutrition sector in the country in order to address the problem of malnutrition.

Speaking in Salima-Thursday on the sidelines of a day-long day workshop for media and district nutritionists, Oxfam Malawi Programmes Manager for Just Economies Steve Kuliyazi said underfunding is the major challenge rocking the nutrition sector.

He also tasked journalists to amplify messages of malnutrition and raise public awareness.

"The media needs to play their role to push for robust allocation of resources towards the country's nutrition sector.

"We need to engage the media as partners to promote transparency and accountability on nutrition issues,” Kuliyazi added.

Principal nutrition and HIV officer for Dedza district council Loti Makina said the meeting has managed to expose gaps that exist in the nutrition sector.

"We have managed to discuss the best modalities to improve the nutrition indicators and also highlight major challenges in our drive towards a healthy nation," Makina said.

Oxfam Malawi is currently championing a mobilisation campaign on "Increasing Resource Allocation and Accountability towards Nutrition Sector in Malawi.”
