VP Chilima’s Case Set for Mention

The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has set 19 May, 2023 for mention in vice President Saulos Chilima’s corruption trial.

A mention is a meeting called by the court to set directions for a case hearing in consultation with the parties involved.

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) spokesperson Egrita Ndala has confirmed to Zodiak about the date.

The ACB accuses Chilima of pocketing over K280 million in kickbacks from businessman Zunneth Sattar to offer him contracts with the Malawi government.

One of the lawyers representing Dr. Chilima in the case, Khumbo Soko has also confirmed the development.

Dr. Chilima is one of the many government officials accused of involvement with Sattar who is also facing trial in the United Kingdom.
