The Malawi Red Cross Society says has assisted over 3, 000 people during the demonstration without problems as people have been giving them access to do their job without hindrances.

The organization’s Communication and Humanitarian Diplomacy specialist, Felix Washoni, said this in Mangochi Friday during a refresher training for its first aid volunteers on their work.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank Malawians. We are now aware and happy that they do understand better the role of Malawi Red Cross as an organization in the country that we are auxiliary to government to help vulnerable communities,” said Washoni.

“I also wish to extend this to our security agencies the army, police and others for giving us access to perform our work,” said Washoni.

On the training, he said they will include ‘safer access’ a component he describes as a must for all volunteers to know and adhere to as this will guarantee safety on their work.

One of the participants, Mathwes Kamtunda, said the trainings are very crucial for them as they work in fields with difficult situation.

Apart from Mangochi, the Society will also train its volunteers in other selected areas like Salima and Mzuzu.
