Police in Neno district have launched a manhunt for suspected criminals who have tampered with a grave of a 97 year old man with albinism who passed away in 1997.

Speaking to Zodiak Online soon after inspecting the tampered grave at Chikungulu village in the area of Traditional Authority Mlauli, Neno Police Station Officer Ruth Harawa, said the police with the help of Neno District Hospital personnel conducted a postmortem on the said body.

Harawa said the discovery of the tampered grave was done by grave diggers who went to prepare a final resting place of a fellow villager over the weekend.

“With the help of Neno District Hospital medical personnels, we conducted a postmortem on the remains of Mr. Laurence Benito and we found out that no human tissue was missing," Harawa said.

She further added that “the graves tampered in fact are two; both with tombstones and none of them has its remains taken away. The other is of a woman, Berita Kalinde, who died at 67 in 2002.”

Harawa further said that the remains of the two were left inside the graves and the motive behind this exhumation is not clear.

Meanwhile, the remains have since been reburied and the police have ganged up with members of the community to apprehend the suspects.
