PIL Joins Fight against COVID-19

The Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) has donated essential medical items to Blantyre District Health Office in an effort to prevent the Corona Virus from entering the country.

The items include twenty 20 liter buckets, 20 hand washing basins, 100 masks and a 10 liter oxygen concentrators.

PIL General Manager, Martin Msimuko, said on Tuesday when he handed over the items that health of their customers is paramount and needs to be protected.

“We want the Blantyre District Health Office to be well prepared in preventive measures against the deadly virus so that Malawi doesn’t fall victim to the pandemic as countries have done,” he said.

Director of Health and Social Services at the Blantyre District Council, Dr. Gift Kawalazira, said the oxygen concentrator will support lives of people with breathing problem in an event that the district registers Corona virus case.

“We will also distribute the buckets to public facilities where people will be washing their hands and maintain their hygiene to avoid the virus,” he said.

Malawi which has no COVID-19 case so far has been surrounded by neighbors who have registered Corona virus cases.
