The economic slowdown caused by COVID-19 has crippled a charitable organization in Chikwawa as is struggling to feed 114 orphans.

Executive Director of Pashelo Charitable Trust Felia Malola told Zodiak on Wednesday afternoon that with government' restrictive measures on public gatherings, they are finding it hard to provide food to orphans at household level.

"We have 100 orphans that operate from their homes to learn at the day care center where they were provided with free breakfast and lunch," said Malola

She added that 14 others stay at the organization's orphanage.

Now with the economic hardships propelled by the COVID-19, Malola said donations to the trust from other countries and local well-wishers have been dwindling.

She complained that she is having difficulties to supply food to orphans in their homes in the wake of the corona virus as they do not have adequate food and money.

"As Pashelo, we are now calling on well-wishers to   help us," she said.

Pashelo Charitable Trust is situated at Ngabu trading center in Chikwawa district.
