Chikwawa District Commissioner has asked development partners to push the Central Government to allocate money in the next national budget in order to fight COVID-19 pandemic.

Ali Phiri told Zodiak on Friday after receiving sanitary supplies from Christian Aid and Eagles Relief that it is becoming extremely hard to effectively respond to the pandemic including contact tracing due to lack of finances.

The sanitary supplies worthy K14 million are likely to assist Nsanje and Chikwawa district hospitals to effectively carry out COVID-19 prevention measures especially in rural health facilities.

Some of the donated items include personal protective equipment, buckets, soap, hand sanitizer and chlorine among others.

While commending Christian Aid and Eagles Relief for the support, District Commissioner Phiri said the non-state actors need to assist them to lobby with the central government for the allocation of money in the next national budget to fight COVID-19.

"As am talking to you, we are having difficulties to make follow ups on suspected cases because of lack of resources," said Ali.

On her part, Christian Aid Head of Programs Yvonne Murindiwa believes the misinformation, misunderstanding and denial surrounding the COVID-19 can end if there is constant and vibrant community engagement.

"We are trying to fine tune our programming to meet the needs of the people especially this time when there are huge negative impacts brought by corona virus," said Murindiwa.

She added that through the implementing organisations, Churches Action in Relief and Development, CARD in Nsanje and Eagles Relief and Development Program in Chikwawa will continue to support the front line health workers to be fully equipped in curbing corona virus.

Currently, Nsanje District has registered 10 cases while Chikwawa has 4 case with national figures hanging close to 600.
