Amitofo Donates Wheel Chairs to PWDs

At least 42 people with mobility disabilities in Mulanje, most of them children, can now afford a smile after receiving wheelchairs from Amitofo Care Centres in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Amitofo Care Centre Director Weng Chia Hung said the 42 wheelchairs donation is part of 100 wheelchairs his organization plans to distribute to people with mobility challenges, mostly children.

“The donation is a response to reports that some children with disabilities in the district are struggling to go to school because of mobility challenges. We assessed the situation on our own and confirmed that indeed there is a need to provide these children with wheelchairs,” said Hung.

District Social Welfare Assistant, Noel Chambo, who received the donation on behalf of Mulanje district council, called upon guardians to take care of the wheel chairs as that will demonstrate the spirit of thanking the donor.

“We have close to 6000 persons with physical disabilities, most of them children who struggle to go to school and we really thank Amitofo care centre for the donation as we believe the beneficiaries will have no excuse if they do not go to school,” said Chambo.

Of the 42 wheelchairs, ten are from Lilongwe Amitofo care centre and 32 are from Blantyre Amitofo centre.

According to Hung, the 100 wheel chairs are worth K25 million and it’s a donation from Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation from Taiwan.
